Sant'Anna was inaugurated
on August 1, 1825.
The tombs inside the arcade
are the works of famous artists,
such as Giuseppe Capolino
(Trieste 1827-1858),
Giovanni Mayer (Trieste 1863-1943), Gianni Marin
(Trieste 1875-aboard a ship
from America 1926),
Franco Asco (Trieste 1903-1980), and others, of national renown, i.e. Donato Barcaglia (Pavia 1849-Rome 1930),
Urbano Nono (Venice 1849 ca.-Belluno 1925), Pietro Canonica
(Moncalieri-Turin 1869-Rome 1959) and Pietro Magni
(Milan 1816-1877).

 
In the areas between the
avenues it is possible to
appreciate a great number
of works by local sculptors,
in a sort of open-air museum.
Besides the above mentioned
names, other artists stand out:
for the XIX century,
Guglielmo Schiff (Mannheim 1837-Gorizia 1891,
Francesco Pezzicar
(Duino-Trieste 1831- Trieste 1890) and Giovanni Depaul (Trieste 1825-1918), while
the XX century artists here represented are Antonio
Camaur (Cormons-Gorizia 1875-Trieste 1919),
Marcello Mascherini, Giovanni Scheriani (Trieste 1887-1947)
and Ruggero Rovan
(Trieste 1877-1965).
